AIEEE: Students unsatisfied

Many of the 34,00 students who appeared for the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) re-examination on Wednesday were an unsatisfied lot. Claiming that the paper they had to write was the toughest in many years; the students cried hoarse saying that the whole process was faulty.

The students were forced to reappear for the exam as the paper had been leaked on May 1. More than 34,000 students could not take the exam then (on May 1) as it was postponed by three hours and clashed with another entrance exam. The students were given a different date, dividing the exam in two phases.

“Physics was extremely difficult. I have never seen this tough a paper at the level of AIEEE 2011. Mathematics was all right but chemistry was quite easy. But if I were to compare this with the earlier exam, it was certainly tougher,“ said Dibankar Jha, an aspirant whose centre was at RK Puram, sector 2.

Students, both who had taken the test earlier and who took it on Wednesday, say that the decision to hold exams in two phases was unjust. “The exam was much tougher than the first one, as we had suspected. This is just not fair. I dedicated two years of my life to this exam. I am very disappointed,“ said Ritesh Dagar, a resident of Panipat, whose centre was in Delhi.

Meanwhile, the students who had appeared earlier were not satisfied either. “Chemistry was very easy in the second exam, much easier than what we had. The results won't be fair this time around,“ said Rupal Mahajan, a resident of Rohini Sector 3.

“The matter is very upsetting. I know how hard my daughter had studied for this but she is not hoping for a good rank because of the fiasco. This is not fair. There should have been a re-exam for all students,“ said Madhulika Arora, a resident of Hauz Khas.

Many students had also visited the CBSE office last week, demanding a re-test for all students but in vain.
